Joe joined Matthew Gold & Co as a trainee solicitor in August 2017. He works from the London office and is currently assisting in civil actions against public authorities.

Before joining Matthew Gold & Co, Joe worked as a Criminal Litigation Paralegal at leading criminal defence firm Kingsley Napley LLP. He gained distinctions in every module & skill of his legal practice course at the University of Sheffield (2015 – 2016) and graduated with a high 2:1 from his Law LLB (Hons) degree at the University of Liverpool in 2014.

In 2014 he was part of a team that won the LawWorks and Attorney General’s Student Pro Bono Awards for Best Contribution by a Team of Students for voluntary work in preparation for the Hillsborough Inquest (at Liverpool Law Clinic).

Due to the quality of his work, Joe was then employed full time as a Hillsborough Inquest Case Officer at Broudie Jackson Canter, assisting in the preparation of witness briefs for counsel, analysing hundreds of documents and collating evidence for witnesses who were giving evidence at the Inquest.

Joe has also assisted the legal team of the Orgreave Truth & Justice Campaign, and acted as an Appropriate Adult volunteer to help safeguard and advise young people and vulnerable adults at custody suites across South Yorkshire.

He has a particular interest in inquest work and in civil actions against the police following from police misconduct. He is a member of Haldane Society for Socialist Lawyers, Police Action Lawyers Group and the Young Public Lawyers’ Group.

Francesca is instructed on range of public law challenge. She has successfully acted for a Claimant in challenging a decision by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills to award student support on the grounds of immigration status.

She is also instructed in public law challenges to NHS charges for maternity care. Francesca is also developing a caseload of criminal justice judicial reviews and is currently instructed in a police caution challenge against Sussex Police.
