Public Law
We represent clients in public law proceedings including applications for Judicial Review in the High Court against various public bodies including government departments, The Independent Assessor, the Independent Police Complaints Commission and Education Authorities.
An application for Judicial Review should be brought as soon as possible and at the latest within three months of the date of the decision being challenged. The High Court reviews the legality of the decision of the public body. If the decision is held to be unlawful, the High Court has a number of remedies open to it including quashing the decision and sending it back to the decision maker.
We accept instructions in the more difficult and complex cases that often other firms of solicitors have turned down. These cases are deserving of the personal and specialist attention that we are able to provide.
We are franchised with the Legal Services Commission to obtain a legal aid certificate in appropriate cases that satisfy the means and merit tests.
We also represent clients in substantial claims for compensation to the Office for Criminal Justice Reform (formerly the Home Office) who have suffered miscarriages of justice. Our clients have had convictions quashed after serving many years of imprisonment. We have succeeded in obtaining claims for over £1 million in the more serious cases.
If you instruct Matthew Gold & Company in your application for Judicial Review, you will obtain expert specialist legal advice and a very personal service. You will have contact with the solicitor dealing with your claim.
